They’re everywhere, they go with everything and there’s loads of different styles to choose from; the lace up shoe is well and truly at the forefront of ladies fashion this season and I’m currently crushing for so many reasons. If, like me, you’ve been a little bit slow on the uptake with this one and you don’t already have a pair (at least) of lace up shoes in your wardrobe, it’s time to invest!
Even though I’m almost 25, I’m still a little wobbly in a pair of heels and, as I’m already 5ft 7″ without any help, I tend to go for a medium height block heel over a higher (and in my case dangerous) stiletto. Naturally, I stuck to tradition when picking my first pair of lace ups and opted for a small block heel – a steal from Primark at just £14 (pictured). Not one to go too far out of my comfort zone on the shoe front, I also opted for black and no embellishment or detailing. They’re super comfy, and super easy to wear as they look great with jeans or a skirt/dress and are wearable in most weather too!
The great thing about this trend is that there is literally a style to suit everyone so if, like me, you don’t tend to experiment too much with your footwear (seriously, I practically only own chunky-heeled black shoes) you’ll easily find a pair that will compliment the rest of your wardrobe. There’s a huge choice of elegant stilettos, chunkier boots, smart flats and summery sandals all of which can be teamed with almost any outfit.
If you’re a newby to the trend and don’t know where to start, try going for black or a neutral colour to begin. This way you’ll have no problem finding an outfit in your wardrobe to show them off with! For a casual look, go for flats with pretty much any outfit or try a stiletto with some boyfriend-cut jeans and a baggy t-shirt. If you’re going to a more formal event, go for a stiletto in a neutral colour and team with a dress and for a girls night out, try going super strappy with try a pop of colour or a print.
For inspiration, look to the likes of Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Kendall Jenner and Millie Mackintosh who all prove that no matter what your style is, you’ll easily find a pair to suit.
Happy lacing up!
